We are excited to host the first online Core Capability Masterclass on the topic ‘political neutrality’.

While some masterclasses will be open to all leaders this masterclass is specifically designed for senior system leaders in the public sector.

With chief executive speakers, interactive breakout sessions and Q&A opportunities, leaders will:

  • better understand their role as a senior system leader to exemplify, role model and uphold the political neutrality principle within agencies
  • hear from two seasoned Public Service chief executives about their experience leading in alignment with the political neutrality principle
  • explore how to navigate political neutrality in a range of contexts as senior leader in their agency
  • understand how political neutrality is integral to trust and confidence in the Public Sector.

Who can attend

This masterclass is aimed at leaders who:

  • lead in a senior system role in the public sector (this could be at a public service agency or in the wider public sector)
  • want to better understand their role as a senior leader to exemplify, role model and uphold the political neutrality principle within their agency.

Rebecca KitteridgeRebecca Kitteridge (she/her)

Rebecca is Deputy Public Service Commissioner, working closely with the Public Service Commissioner to provide leadership and oversight of the Public Service. 

From March 2023 to April 2024, Rebecca stepped into the role of acting Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Chief Executive from her substantive role here at the Commission.  Prior to this, Rebecca was Director-General of Security and Chief Executive, New Zealand Security Intelligence Service.

Secretary for Justice and Chief Executive

 Andrew has been Secretary since February 2019.Prior to this, he was Chief Executive of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) for six and a half years. Andrew’s previous experience in the public service includes roles as Deputy Chief Executive at Treasury, Director of the Policy Advisory Group at the DPMC, and General Manager Strategic Development at the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology.

Andrew began his career at the Treasury and has a BSc (Hons) from the University of Canterbury, a BCA from Victoria University, and an MBA (Arjay Millar Scholar) from Stanford University
